After-care instructions

After a filling

If you had freezing, avoid chewing and hot drinks until it wears off. Mild sensitivity to hot and cold for a few days is normal.

After an extraction

Bite gently on gauze for 30–45 minutes. For 24 hours, avoid rinsing, spitting, straws and smoking so the clot can form. Call us if bleeding continues or pain worsens after a few days.

After a root canal

Some tenderness when biting is common for a few days. Avoid chewing hard foods on that side until your final crown or filling is placed.

After a crown or bridge

A temporary crown can come loose. Avoid sticky foods and floss by sliding the floss out sideways. Call us if it comes off.

New dentures

Sore spots are normal at first. Start with soft foods cut into small pieces. We'll adjust any areas that rub.

After whitening

Avoid coffee, tea, red wine and other staining foods for 48 hours. Use a sensitivity toothpaste if needed.
