Occlusal Stabilizing Appliances
Protect your smile while you sleep.
An occlusal stabilizing appliance, commonly called a night guard, is a custom-fitted device that protects your teeth from clenching and grinding. Many people grind their teeth in their sleep without realizing it, and over time that wears enamel down, cracks teeth and strains the jaw. A guard absorbs that force instead.

Common questions
How do I know if I grind my teeth?
Common signs are waking with a sore jaw or headache, worn or flattened teeth, increased sensitivity, or a partner who hears grinding at night. We can also spot the wear pattern during an exam.
Is a custom guard better than a drugstore one?
Yes. A boil-and-bite guard from a pharmacy is bulky, fits poorly and can shift your bite. A custom appliance is made to your teeth, so it is more comfortable, lasts far longer and protects more effectively.
Is it covered by insurance?
Many dental plans cover part of the cost. We provide a written estimate you can submit to your insurer before treatment.
How long does one last?
With good care, a custom appliance typically lasts several years. We check its condition at your regular visits.
